Walk to class to The Temptations
Dennis Edwards, a former lead singer of Motown pioneers the Temptations,
died Thursday at the age of 74. He was a member of the revered soul
group originally from 1968 until 1977 and later rejoined for various
reunions into the Eighties. His voice was present on a string of hits,
including "I Can't Get Next to You," "Ball of Confusion" and "Papa Was a
Rollin' Stone."Edwards delivered and The Temptations continued their winning ways,
landing 27 Hot 100 entries during the main Edwards era of late 1968
through 1977. Nine of those titles reached the top 10, with three – "I
Can't Get Next to You," "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" and
"Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" – becoming the group's second, third and
fourth No. 1 hits, respectively.
Dennis Edwards will be remembered this week for his great vocals on many classic songs. The Temptations always inspire us as we head off to class.
