This week Year 7 students are learning about Blues music.  A selection of  music has been compiled  inspired by the blues.  Muddy Waters heard here is one of the legends of the genre. The Moon, the astronomical body that orbits Earth, is one of the most
inspirational objects for human creativity. It has inspired words from
Shakespeare, Wordsworth and Joyce, and paintings from Rembrandt, Van
Gogh and Magritte. There have also been songs about the Moon, by artists
including The Beatles (‘Mr Moonlight’), The Rolling Stones (‘Moon Is Up’) and Pink Floyd (‘The Dark Side Of the Moon’).


As well as prompting evergreen hits such as ‘Fly Me To the Moon’, the
Moon has been the subject of comedy songs (Laurel And Hardy’s ‘Lazy
Moon’, The Stargazers’ No.1 60s hit, ‘I See the Moon’), political songs
(Gil Scott-Heron’s ‘Whitey On The Moon’) and numerous instrumentals
(Enya’s ‘Moon Shepherdess’). The Moon and outer space are often used in
ballads to provide the imagery expressing the enormity of emotion. Enjoy your walk to class this week with some songs about the  moon

For those who were there, Woodstock was a weekend like no other

For three days in August 1969, it seemed like the Age of Peace and Love might just take hold.

Fifty years earlier, more than 400,000 young people grooved to the sounds of their generation at a music festival billed as “An Aquarian Exposition.”

Indeed, those hills really were alive with the sound of music as the three days of Woodstock unfolded here a half-century ago. Today that music, and the spirit of one of the most raucous weekends in American history, still echoes in the hearts of those who were there, those who wish they were there, and those who say they were there but might have come up more than a few miles short.

We  celebrate the 50th anniversary of  the concert as we walk to class this week.  Hope  you enjoy it.

Flashback 70's.....Suzi Qautro

Before I did what I did, we didn't have a place in rock 'n' roll. Not really.  I was the first to be taken seriously as a female rock 'n' roll musician and singer. That hadn't been done before. I played the boys at their own game. For everybody that came afterward, it was a little bit easier, which is good. I'm proud of that. If I have a legacy, that's what it is. It's nothing I take lightly. It was gonna happen sooner or later. I have done my job more than 50 years.

Tribute to Doris Day

Doris gained a vocal education by listening to the radio, becoming a fan of the embryonic records of upcoming Ella Fitzgerald. Her mother encouraged her to take singing lessons. Alma took Doris to see vocal coach Grace Raine, who was so impressed with Doris' natural talent that she offered her three lessons for the price of one.  Doris credits Raine with impressing upon her the importance of delivering a lyric, and today Doris says that Raine had the greatest impact on her singing career.
